As I said in my “About This Blog” page, I make a lot of fairly non-mainstream parenting practices. Most of them fall under the categories of attachment parenting, natural family living, or just plain crunchy. Although I don’t believe that every choice we make can or should work for every family, I do believe that knowledge is power. For me, the Internet has been a huge resource in helping me to learn more about a lot of things I’d never even considered before I had kids (for example, I had no idea that anyone could or would choose not to vaccinate, and I thought the idea of cloth diapering was insane). Beyond that, it’s also helped me feel not so alone. Were it not for the people I’ve met online (many of whom I’ve gone on to meet in person), I would never have known anyone who breastfed beyond one year old or shared a bed with their child, and I doubt I’d ever have heard of, let alone seen, a wrap carrier or a mei tai or a podegai.
So with that in mind, these are some sites I’ve found invaluable on my parenting journey. It should be no surprise that most of them lean heavily toward the crunchy. They include a mix of informational, instructional, and retail sites. I hope someone else will find them as useful as I have!
